1Password launches Unified Access for enhanced credential management

1Password is introducing Unified Access, a new feature within its Extended Access Management (XAM) suite. This offering combines 1Password Enterprise Password Manager (EPM) and 1Password SaaS Manager to provide businesses with centralized control over company credentials under a zero trust access governance framework, as reported by Tech Radar.

Unified Access aims to simplify the complex task of tracking credentials scattered across various platforms, spreadsheets, and employee accounts. It addresses the growing problem of "shadow IT" and "SaaS sprawl" where new applications and credentials emerge without IT oversight, overwhelming administrators. The feature allows IT teams to discover and manage credentials by scanning EPM vaults and centrally controlling access. It also enables the revocation of access for departing employees, mitigating risks such as unauthorized access to former employers' accounts, a concern highlighted by 1Password's 2025 Annual Report where 38% of employees admitted to such access. Unified Access supports compliance with standards like SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA by logging access and rotation events.

Unified Access shifts security governance to the access layer, providing IT and security teams with the ability to manage, audit, and revoke access to both single sign-on (SSO) and non-SSO applications, irrespective of device or location. This is particularly crucial for remote and hybrid work environments and BYOD policies. The App Launcher feature further streamlines employee access by centralizing all applications, allowing single-click access without requiring users to know or enter passwords.
