SonicWall Email Security Solutions use multilayer sandboxing to analyze suspicious email attachments and URLs. Threats detected on a layer of a defense chain propagate countermeasures that reduce the window of exposure and benefit others in real-time. A unified platform manages SonicWall products in a single portal.

SonicWall Email Security is highly flexible and scalable and can be deployed as a gateway or a SaaS. The gateway option includes real-time threat intelligence feeds, advanced threat protection, anti-spoofing, anti-virus, anti-spam, data loss prevention and compliance. The SaaS-based option includes next-gen security for Office 365, anti-phishing, ransomware and zero-day protection, account takeover protection, data loss prevention and compliance. As part of both SonicWall Email Security options, the common threat research engine takes data from every deployment for threat detection and prevention capabilities.

A lot of automation and machine learning is built into the product. Automated real-time breach protection and prevention technology runs data through a deep-learning algorithm to classify known and unknown threats. The ATP sandbox supports detection and classification with multiple engines, leveraging different technologies to detect zero-day attachments and URLs, unknown threats and malicious files. It rewrites all incoming and outgoing URLs which, at time-of-click, are analyzed for malicious content. The solution uses plug-ins for spam detection and returns a degree of certainty for each finding based on the number of plug-ins that detected spam within an email. Automated responses can be configured based on these levels of certainty. Spam detection leverages SonicWall’s blacklist services as well as third-party integrations.

Setup is straightforward, with a setup wizard providing an easy-to-follow walkthrough. Once SonicWall is up and running, it scans and feeds all historical data into the machine learning component to create user profiles that can be leveraged to detect any anomalous data. The interface is straightforward but looks bland and dated when compared with other dashboards we have seen. SonicWall includes limited search filters to narrow scope and event result.

SonicWall is a combination solution that offers more than just email protection. It has robust deployment options and unified platform management, making its total cost of ownership more competitive than many other email security options. Even with a few limitations, we believe this product is a still great choice for current SonicWall subscribers. 

Pricing begins at $15 per user and includes 24/7 phone support with built-in escalation mechanisms. MySonicWall is a web-based portal with a knowledgebase and FAQ list.
