Hexnode offers enterprise-wide endpoint management for both personal and corporate-owned devices, all on a single console. This product comes with a variety of customizations and top-of-the-line support.
Hexnode is sleek and, overall, well organized. The dashboard layout shows a high-level overview of device and user information. Unfortunately, it has no widget configuration capability that would have otherwise provided a more personalized and seamless user experience.
There is also some trouble with enrollment and with importing user groups from directory services. The provided instructions for Windows 10 enrollment are sometimes confusing and difficult to follow. However, as of now, these instructions are under construction and the anticipated Windows device management changes are aimed at making enrollment and overall management easier. We are confident that these changes will be helpful since enrolling other devices requires much less effort. Enrolling Android devices is particularly easy.
Despite these hurdles, we really liked many of Hexnode’s offered features. As with many of these products, Hexnode includes Geofencing capabilities and Apple Configurator support. Hexnode also can customize data usage dates, a feature available in only a few products. Other products reset data usage on the first of each month, an impractical default setting since few data plans start on this date. We strongly encourage other companies to follow Hexnode’s lead and allow for data usage date customizability.
Even though data usage date customization is available, at the time of writing this article, data usage restriction is not. We were told this feature will be available soon and will allow security teams to restrict a device’s overall data usage or to restrict applications on a case-by-case basis. This update will include the ability to choose when data tracking resets and to restrict data usage after a device has reached a pre-determined threshold.
Visibility is important for mobile device management and Hexnode issues a variety of reports that increase this visibility. These reports can be scheduled to run daily, weekly or monthly and are emailed to security teams accordingly.
Mobile device management is no easy task, although solutions like Hexnode make it easier. For this reason, quality support is also an invaluable feature. Hexnode offers free support for the first month after purchase, a helpful means of getting up and running as quickly as possible. This trial period provides access to all available plans and, when coupled with five different support options, stands out as a unique feature of this competitively priced product. Pricing starts at $1 per device/month. A free, 30-day trial period comes with purchase of Hexnode and gives access to 24/5 support (Phone, Live Chat, Email, Forum, Knowledgebase, FAQ list and Social Media). After this trial period, support services can be continued by subscribing to one of five plans available: Express, Pro, Enterprise, Ultimate and Ultra.
