Installation of this product was simple. It took only a few minutes to get the product up and running. The installation is done through launching the install application, which is guided by a short setup wizard. After installation, all scanning and configuration is done using the LANguard application. The interface of this app is clean and well organized, and most scans are configured through a wizard-based process. We found this tool easy and intuitive to use end-to-end.
This product uses a large number of default scanning profiles, which can be further customized in order to change the amount and type of information which GFI LANguard extracts from the network. If these profiles need to be customized or changed, the user can do it in a few simple steps via the interface. At the end of the scan, this product shows a summary of the results in an easy-to-read layout. However, in-depth reports require the installation of additional no-cost tools. We found the reporting tools a little confusing and difficult to use.
Documentation is provided in a single PDF user manual. This manual covers the product from the point after it is installed. It gives detailed information about how to use and configure the product and its features. This manual has many screen shots and configuration examples.
GFI provides 30 days of free technical support with the purchase of the product. Ongoing support is provided as an annual support contract at a price of 20 percent of the purchase price. Support includes phone and email technical support. GFI also has a free support area on its website, which includes access to a knowledge base, user forum and product documentation downloads.
At a price starting at $32 per IP for 10-24 IPs, this product can become expensive for larger environments. However, it is moderately priced for the functionality it offers. We find this product to be a good value for the money.
