House of Representatives leaders in the US have once again tabled a bill that aims to tackle the spyware menace.
The House has made two previous attempts to regulate the growth ofmalicious spyware, in October 2004 and May 2005, but the Senate has notbeen keen to ratify them.
Supporters say the bill will protect consumers by prohibiting unfair ordeceptive behaviour such as keylogging, phishing and the display ofadverts that cannot be closed. Opponents claim that the regulations aretoo inflexible to combat online crime, and that they will merely hamperlegitimate software development.
