Who’s in Charge: Secretary of State Shantel KrebsSouth Dakota's election security has a little bit from Column A, good security, and a little bit from Column B, poor practices.In Column A the state uses only uses paper balloting making the voting process itself secure and has a voter-verified paper audit trail, The state does not allow absentee ballots to be filed electronically, locking down another potential attack surface. Finally, all its voting machines are tested to EAC guidelines and all machines involved in the voting process are checked for logic and accuracy.
In Column B, the state does not require post-election audits which are needed to ensure the accuracy of the vote count.Related Events
