Sony suggests phishing to blame after PlayStation accounts hijacked

Share

Sony has warned gamers to avoid credential phishing scams after a spate of complaints from PlayStation users that they were locked out of their accounts and that their funds were stolen, the BBC has reported.

The company asserted to the BBC that its PlayStation Network was not hacked, following a rash of account hijacking complaints taking place over the last few days via social media sites including Twitter.

“We routinely monitor for irregular activity, and if such activity is detected, we may sometimes reset passwords of affected accounts to protect users and their account information," Sony said in a statement to the BBC. "We strongly advise users to keep a close eye on their accounts for unusual activity and avoid entering your username/password into unofficial sites looking to phish credentials based on fake promotions.”
