SCM Microsystems, the Californian digital security specialist, says it plans to enter the physical access control market.Making the announcement at the CeBIT show in Hannover,Germany, on Monday, the company said that increased securityawareness, especially in the US, is driving an increase in the use ofsmart card technology in ID recognition marketplace.Smart cards, says the company, remain almost impossible to counterfeit and are increasingly being used as an alternative to visual inspection, which is labour-intensive in most situations.Bob Schneider, the company's CEO, said that, as physical accesscontrol migrates to smart cards, the market is becoming moresophisticated and more demanding.SCM will unveil its first physical access products at next month's CardTechSecurTech exhibition, which opens in Washington on April 26.Web... www.scmmicro.de
