Over the last six months, global demand for network engineers who have DDoS mitigation skills has continued to grow. China is seeing the most demand for these skills, with roughly 47 percent annual growth.
According to new research from Imperva, the reason for this is a scarcity of qualified personnel and a rising demand for this specific experience. Companies in the UK, US and Canada are taking longer to fill these positions, as proven by the increase in average listing days for them.
Desired qualifications of an experienced anti-DDoS engineer draws a long list that includes years in the industry, career experience, knowledge of network infrastructure, network platforms and DDoS mitigation technologies, specifically BGP and GRE tunneling.
Job listings for DDoS increased 56 percent in all countries, 33 percent in the US, 142 percent in China and 33 percent in the UK. Demand for DDoS mitigation skills is growing at a faster rate than that of JavaScript, although in smaller absolute numbers.
The hiring demand in China is being met much faster. UK and US job listings have longer average listing days than China. The upward trend in average listing days may indicate that all countries find it more difficult to fill their DDoS network engineering positions.
Companies around the world are looking to hire skilled and scarce human resources to address security concerns threatening their online presence. The growth in attacks makes it essential for every organisation to have a DDoS planning, prevention and mitigation strategy.
It is believed that the demand for network engineers with DDoS expertise is growing due to the rise of volumetric attacks on organisations. Whether they build or outsource their DDoS mitigation, organisations require a specialised resource in their IT departments to focus on internal solutions or actively manage vendors.
