Marketing company CMP Media has acquired Black Hat, an information security trainer and conference organizer, this week for $10 million.
Manhasset, N.Y.,-based CMP already owns the Computer Science Institute, Secure Enterprise magazine and the Security Pipeline website.
The acquisition increases CMP's reach in an expanding industry, Steve Weitzner, chief executive officer and president, said in a statement.
"Security, vulnerabilities and disasters are a daily concern for IT professionals at organizations around the globe. The security industry accounts for $46 billion in 2005, according to Forrester (Research)," he said. "CMP's goal is to meet the needs of our customers and audiences. Black Hat deepens our security audience reach and reinforces our commitment to offering the strongest platform in the computer security media market."
CMP said that founder and owner Jeff Moss will continue to run the company as director of Black Hat.
The purchase increases CMP's information security empire, said Chris Keating, vice president of CMP's security media group.
"(Black Hat's) approach to security, focusing on attacks and countermeasures, complements CSI's methodology of a broader approach to computer security," he said.
