ASCO Industries confirms ransomware attack

ASCO Industries has broken its silence regarding the cyberattack saying it has been hit with ransomware and has shut down activities at its facilities in Belgium, Canada, the United States and Germany.

ASCO said it is on the receiving end of a massive ransomware attack that has caused a serious disruption to all its systems and ability to communicate. The company has brought it outside forensic experts and is working to restore its systems and check those that have been shuttered for malware. The company did not issue a timetable, but it hopes to start bringing its systems back online in the coming days.

“It is because of the specific nature of the attack that we want to assess every individual IT system not to compromise security, whilst guaranteeing the sustainability and quality of the solution and mitigation actions that are put in place. We take an approach of extreme caution as we cannot accept an impact on the security of the systems,” the company said.

At this point ASCO does not believe any information has been exfiltrated.

News that the Belgian-based ASCO was undergoing some type of cyberattack broke early last week, but other than informing one local tech news site the company had not made a general announcement until June 15. However, before this SC Media did confirm that the attack had happened through Spirit AeroSystems, a company that is currently in the process of acquiring ASCO.
