Deputy national security advisor for cyber and new technology Anne Neuberger is coordinating the White House's response to the widespread SolarWinds espionage campaign, reports the New York Times.The campaign was first discovered in SolarWinds, but actually comprised attacks on SolarWinds, Microsoft and VMWare customers. Lawmakers believe Russian intelligence was behind the effort.Earlier this week, Sens. Mark Warner, D-Va., and Marco Rubio, R-Fla., sent a letter to the U.S. intelligence services asking them to assign a leader for the response. The senators appeared to be under the impression that no one person was coordinating the activities, and the briefings had suffered accordingly."The briefings we have received convey a disjointed and disorganized response to confronting the breach," they wrote. "Taking a federated rather than a unified approach means that critical tasks that are outside the central roles of your respective agencies are likely to fall through the cracks."was newly created by the Biden administration. She prior position in government was director of cybersecurity at the NSA.
