Judging by the response from attendees, our two November Congress events – SC World Congress in New York and SC Congress Canada in Toronto – were both unqualified successes. The quality of programming and speakers, the relevance of topics and several other aspects of the two gatherings received high marks from respondents to our exit poll.

“The level of discussions both in the sessions and on the floor was outstanding,” said Craig Spiezle, executive director of the Online Trust Alliance, and one of the speakers in New York.

The expo floor at both events buzzed with activity. Visitors perused the latest offerings from 50 vendors at the third annual New York event and 36 vendors at the inaugural Canada show.

Themes extended across both Congresses. There was a lot of talk at each show around mobile, cloud, vulnerabilities, critical infrastructure protection, advanced threats, and privacy. Keynote sessions, panels and presentations drew attentive crowds at both locations, with attendees reporting they were pleased with the timeliness of and audience participation at each of the talks, which included addresses from Rep. Yvette Clarke, D.-N.Y. (pictured above), and retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Elder.

Arguably the most buzz was generated by the “12 Hours to Network Meltdown” keynote in New York, a real-time hacking simulation, proctored by the U.S. Air Force and SC Magazine's lab team, that encouraged audience participation via Twitter.

The following week, at our first Congress in Canada, security preparations, tactical strategies and implementations were under discussion among a slate of expert speakers, including Canadian Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart and Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian. In fact, the event opened our eyes to the wide range of activities and solid business growth happening in the secury field occuring throughout Canada.

“Our Congress events were hugely successful this year,” SC Magazine Editor-in-Chief Illena Armstrong said. In fact, the proven success of the events has allowed us to begin preparations for the second annual SC Congress Canada, to take place June 14-15, 2011, as well as our fourth annual SC World Congress, tentatively set to take place in New York on Nov. 9-10, 2011.

Meanwhile, you can view many of the presentations from these two events on our website.
