IBM X-Force Advanced Research team, where he served as both a researcher and manager over the course of nine years.

Donald “Andy” Purdy, formerly an official at the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has been named chief security officer at
Huawei USA, a China-based provider of information and communications technology. He will be based in the United States and oversee the company's cyber security assurance strategy and support the global security system adopted by all of the company's business groups, including R&D, supply chain, marketing and sales, project delivery and technical service.

Backupify, a Cambridge, Mass.-based vendor of online backup services for cloud application data, has secured $9 million in Series C funding to assist in development and adoption of its tools used for backing up data stored in a number of cloud-based applications. The funding was led by

AlienVault, a San Mateo, Calif.-based company whose Unified Security Management platform brings together best-in-breed open source tools, has closed a $22.4 million Series C funding round led by
Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and
Sigma. Existing investors
Trident Capital and
Adara Venture Partners also participated. The cash will be used to expand the company's sales, marketing and support functions, as well as further invest in research and development.
