Zscaler acquires browser security firm SquareX to enhance threat protection

Silicon Angle disclosed that Zscaler Inc. has acquired browser security company SquareX Ltd. for an undisclosed sum, aiming to enhance its browser security capabilities and protect users from sophisticated online threats.

SquareX specializes in securing browsers against threats like phishing and session hijacking with its Browser Detection and Response technology. This platform monitors browser behavior in real-time to identify credential theft, malicious scripts, and account takeover attempts. It offers protection via a lightweight browser extension, allowing organizations to secure existing browsers without requiring separate enterprise versions. Additionally, SquareX provides isolated and disposable browser sessions to mitigate risks from suspicious links or files, preventing malware from reaching local devices. Zscaler plans to integrate this technology into its Zero Trust Exchange Platform, enabling the embedding of extensions into standard browsers like Chrome and Edge.
