US, other countries push for threat intelligence sharing in combating cyber threats

Officials from the U.S. and other countries have emphasized the importance of multilateral partnerships and intelligence sharing in combating cybersecurity threats at the Singapore International Cyber Week conference, according to ZDNET. U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas noted that the U.S. has worked together with various countries in terms of sharing information regarding cybersecurity threats, system vulnerabilities, and cyber emergency response. Collaborating with the academic and private sector is also crucial in addressing cybersecurity issues, with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency forming the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative aimed at fostering private-public partnership in cybersecurity, noted Mayorkas. "The cyber threat is not specific to governments. So many private and public businesses have been attacked by ransomware [and] have suffered cyberattacks that it really requires an all-of-society effort to strengthen the entire cyber ecosystem," said Mayorkas. Increased international cooperation and further training on basic digital skills have also been urged by Ghana's Minister for Communications and Digitalization Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
