US and Australia warn of escalating Avaddon ransomware attacks

BleepingComputer reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the U.S. and the Australian Cyber Security Centre are warning organizations about the increasing incidents of Avaddon ransomware attacks across the globe.

According to the FBI’s TLP:GREEN flash alert, Avaddon ransomware attackers are attempting to gain access to the networks of health care, manufacturing and other private organizations worldwide. Meanwhile, affiliates of the ransomware gang are going after entities in various sectors, including energy, finance, government, information technology and law enforcement, among others, the ACSC said. The Australian agency also presented a list of countries targeted by these attacks, which includes the U.S., Germany, China, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, India and France.

The ACSC said that victims are being threatened with denial-of-service attacks to coerce them into paying ransom. However, the FBI found no evidence of DDoS attacks after the Avaddon ransomware attacks.

The launch of DDoS attacks was first announced by the Avaddon ransomware gang in January of this year.
