Two skimming devices found on California hotel computers

The San Francisco Airport – South San Francisco Embassy Suites hotel is notifying an undisclosed number of guests that their payment card information may be at risk after skimming devices were discovered on two computers in 2013.

It was not revealed how long the skimming devices were on the computers, but the information that was accessed included cardholder names, credit and debit card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV2 card security codes.

“We have no reason to believe that this situation has impacted any other Embassy Suites hotel or any other hotel in our chain,” Rudy Ortiz, the hotel general manager, said in the notification letter, adding an investigation with law enforcement is ongoing.

A South San Francisco Embassy Suites representative did not return a SCMagazine.com request for comment.

UPDATE: A spokeswoman with Hilton Worldwide told SCMagazine.com on Tuesday that there were 44 impacted individuals, but notification letters are being sent to more out of an abundance of caution. She said it is currently unknown how long the skimming devices were on the computers and explained that an investigation is ongoing.
