An NTT Data study, based on a survey of over 2,300 senior decision-makers from 33 countries worldwide, showed that just 14% of companies have attained the most advanced level of cloud maturity, according to IT Brief Asia.

Researchers found that while 99% of respondents cite AI as one of the factors contributing to a rising demand for cloud investment, 88% reported existing budget outlays are jeopardizing AI, cloud-native and modernization initiatives. When asked about the impact of cloud or the development of their modernization programs, less than 50% of those surveyed expressed satisfaction and 50% said data platforms and legacy application hinder innovation. Forty-seven percent of respondents utilized AI in their last cloud migration initiatives, compared with 35% of other companies.

“AI is accelerating faster than enterprise cloud maturity," said NTT DATA’s President and Global Head of Cloud and Security Charlie Li. "Cloud has moved well beyond infrastructure and is now the execution layer for AI. Organizations that fail to evolve their cloud foundations risk constraining the growth and value of their AI investments. Our clients who are succeeding are treating cloud as a value creator, not a technology initiative.”

Meanwhile, security was cited as the top cloud investment priority, while modernization emerged as the top cloud priority over the next two years.
