Tensions are running high on the Korean peninsula this week with South Korea's intelligence agency accusing its northern neighbor of an attempted cyberattack, while Pyongyang threatened to launch nuclear attacks against the south and United States.
The Wall Street Journal said South Korea's National Intelligence service spotted the attempt by North Korea to hack South Korean government websites and the smartphones of key government figures. No further details were provided, but North Korea frequently launches cyberattacks against the south.
The attempted cyber attack came at the same time South Korean and U.S. troops are conducting their annual Foal Eagle training exercise, which pushed North Korea to threaten Seoul and Washington, D.C., with nuclear attacks. Pyongyang often threatens massive attacks on other nations during military exercises.
