SoftBank leverages OpenAI for AI-driven cybersecurity patching service

According to SDx Central, SoftBank Group is implementing an AI-driven patching service developed in collaboration with OpenAI, aiming to bolster cybersecurity defenses for critical infrastructure firms.

SoftBank's "Patching as a Service" (PaaS), powered by a joint venture with OpenAI called SB OAI Japan, offers clients AI-infused remediation planning and vulnerability assessment. The company reported experiencing 300 million monthly reconnaissance intrusions in 2025, alongside 60,000 intrusion attempts and 2,800 distributed denial of service attacks. Internal testing of the PaaS service identified 10,500 vulnerabilities across 700 internal systems, with 4,000 requiring remediation. OpenAI's Codex Security is integrated into the workflow, aligning with OpenAI's Daybreak security program.

SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son stated the company's determination to defend against advanced AI-powered cyberattacks using state-of-the-art AI. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, expressed excitement about working with SoftBank to accelerate defenders and strengthen systems through their cyber models.
