Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are neglecting printer security, with 57% considering it a low priority in their overall cybersecurity strategy, according to research by HP. Meanwhile, many SMBs have recently experienced print-related data loss incidents, highlighting printers as a growing security vulnerability, Tech Radar reports.HP's study indicates that 56% of SMBs have reported at least one print-related data loss incident in the past year. A significant gap in visibility exists, as one in two SMBs cannot track who prints what or where documents are being printed. Furthermore, 45% of businesses are unsure if their print environment meets industry compliance standards. Many employees incorrectly assume network printers are secure, with half not considering them a threat. A single misdirected scan or uncollected print job can lead to the leakage of sensitive data such as payroll, customer records, or contract details.Looking ahead, 69% of SMBs recognize the need to enhance printer cybersecurity, addressing cloud vulnerabilities, unauthorized access, and the physical security of printed documents. Treating printers as connected, intelligent endpoints, similar to other devices on the network, is crucial for improving visibility, policy enforcement, and compliance support, HP said.Source: Tech Radar
