Six people have been charged in an alleged scheme to manipulate Connecticut Lottery Terminals to produce more instant winning tickets.
Former Lotto retailers Prakuni Patel, Rahul Gandhi, Vikas Patel, Pranav Patel, Sedat Kurutan, and Moinuddin Saiyed were arrested between Feb. 29 and Mar. 7 this year and face charges including first-degree larceny, first-degree computer crimes and rigging a game, according to the The Hartford Courant.
A Connecticut Lottery investigator concluded that terminal operators found a way to slow down the machines and see whether or not the tickets were instant winners or not before purchases were made. If the ticket wasn't an instant winner the operator would simply cancel the purchase, according to the publication.
Officials reportedly suspended the 5 Card Cash game in November 2015 after they noticed that more winning tickets were being issued that they game's parameters should have allowed.
