Second Scientology hacker admits guilt

A Nebraska man on Monday agreed to plead guilty to participating in a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that took down the Church of Scientology website in January 2008. Brian Thomas Mettenbrink, 20, of Grand Island, Neb., agreed to serve a one-year prison sentence, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice. Mettenbrink was part of an underground group, called Anonymous, that led protests against the church. Last May, Dmitriy Guzner, a 19-year-old New Jersey man, pleaded guilty for his role in the attacks and was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison. – AM
