Russian arrested by Czech officials allegedly tied to 2012 LinkedIn hack

The Russian man that Czech authorities arrested on Oct. 5 in collaboration with the FBI is allegedly connected to the 2012 breach of LinkedIn – an incident that rose to prominence in May 2016 when a bad actor began selling stolen credentials from 117 million LinkedIn accounts online.

"Following the 2012 breach of LinkedIn member information, we have remained actively involved with the FBI's case to pursue those responsible. We are thankful for the hard work and dedication of the FBI in its efforts to locate and capture the parties believed to be responsible for this criminal activity," LinkedIn said in a statement provided to SCMagazine.com.

Through the state-run Russian news agency Tass, a Russian spokesperson said that the suspect, identified as Yevgeniy Nikulin, should be returned to his home country rather than face potential extradition to the U.S.
