Restaurant worker sentenced for skimming scam

A Brooklyn man was sentenced to between two and seven years in state prison after using a skimming device to steal more than 30 credit card numbers.

Heng Li stole the information while working at the Golden Town Buffet on Route 9W in Glenmont, N.Y., a hamlet of the town of Bethlehem, outside Albany. The Bethlehem Police searched the restaurant and arrested Li in August after receiving a search warrant for identity theft.

In addition to using his skimming device, Li also possessed a fake Michigan driver's license and was under active deportation, along with three other restaurant employees.  

Multiple skimming schemes have hit the New York area this year, including a scam involving the MTA Long Island Rail Road ticket vending machines earlier this month. Thousands of commuters were impacted in that case.
