Five suspected cyberthieves have fled Thailand after allegedly stealing approximately 12 million baht ($350,000 U.S.) in cash from 21 malware-infected ATMs operated by the state-run Government Savings Bank (GSB), the Bangkok Post has reported.
Citing a senior police source, the Post article states that the Royal Thai Police Office possesses compelling evidence implicating five Eastern Europeans in the heist, including witness accounts and security camera footage of the perpetrators removing the cash after infecting ATMs with “specially made electronic cards produced in the Ukraine.”
The incidents took place in six different provinces from July 7-30. The suspects are believed to be behind similar ATM thefts in Taiwan this past July, the report continues.
