Report: AI agent adoption widens identity security gaps

A significant gap is emerging between the rapid adoption of AI agents and organizational preparedness for the resulting security threats, according to a new report from Rubrik Zero Labs, as covered by Channel Insider.

The study, which surveyed over 1,600 IT security leaders, found that 89% have already fully or partially integrated AI agents into their identity infrastructure, fueling a proliferation of non-human identities (NHIs). However, this expansion comes with heightened risk, as 58% of respondents expect that agentic AI will drive at least half of all cyberattacks in the coming year.

This has triggered a major shift in security strategy, with 87% of IT leaders planning to or already changing their Identity and Access Management (IAM) providers, primarily due to security concerns. Concurrently, confidence in cyber defense is waning; only 28% believe they could fully recover from an incident within 12 hours, a sharp decline from 43% in 2024.
