Potentially severe cyberattacks against US thwarted by federal efforts

CyberScoop reports that numerous potentially significant cyberattacks against U.S. critical infrastructure have been thwarted with information sharing efforts between the U.S. Cyber Command and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Among the intrusions that have been impeded by the collaboration between both agencies was the Iranian hacking campaign that sought to compromise election result-reporting software, with the Cyber Command's Cyber National Mission Forces preventing network access after being notified by CISA, said CNMF Commander Maj. Gen. William Hartman during the RSA 2023 Conference. Another attack campaign against three federal agencies had also been identified and impeded by CISA, which shared details of the intrusion with CNMF. "The ability for DHS CISA to be able to rapidly provide us information has become a large driver for CMNF operations around the world. I just want to highlight that this isn't something that we would be talking about if this was a couple of years ago," said Hartman.
