The Korea Times reports that Shinhan Card, which is the largest credit card firm in South Korea, had 192,088 card merchant representative records exposed as a result of an insider breach associated with new card marketing.
More than 181,500 records contained only representatives' mobile numbers, over 8,000 had both their numbers and names, and over 2,000 had numbers along with names, birth years, and gender, while more than 70 others contained numbers, names, and birthdates, according to Shinhan Card, which stressed that card numbers, resident registration numbers, bank account details, and other sensitive personal and financial information had not been leaked.
"Additional review is required to determine whether the case should be classified as unauthorized use of personal information or a data breach, but we are responding with measures equivalent to those applied in data leak cases to ensure customer protection," said Shinhan Card.
The firm's disclosure comes amid a slew of data breaches at leading South Korean companies, including Coupang, Lotte Card, and SK Telecom.
