OPM CIO Seymour resigns, avoids testifying before Oversight panel

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Chief Information Officer (CIO) Donna Seymour resigned today, just days before she was scheduled to testify before the House panel investigating the massive OPM hack that took place last year.

Seymour's decision angered some of the panel's members, including Rep. William Hurd (R-Texas), chairman of the IT Subcommittee for Oversight and Government Reform, and House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). Both had previously called for Seymour to be removed from her position.

“Seymour needed to go, but it's no comfort to the millions of compromised Americans,” Hurd said in a written release.

Chaffetz canceled the Feb. 24 hearing Seymour was to address and told USA Today, “While I am disappointed Ms. Seymour will no longer appear before our committee this week to answer to the American people, her retirement is necessary and long overdue."
