OpenMandriva Linux project reportedly targeted in attempted sabotage after contributor dispute

The OpenMandriva Linux project announced it was the target of an attempted act of internal sabotage following a dispute among contributors. The attempted destructive action involved wiping GitHub repositories and pushing an empty package that could have damaged users' systems, according to information published by Bleeping Computer.

The incident occurred after a contributor's abusive behavior reportedly led to some members leaving the project. In the fallout, another developer, Davide Beatrici, with administrative privileges, deleted parts of a repository and pushed an empty package to the Cooker repository, which obsoleted Gnome and Cosmic desktop environment packages.

Beatrici claims his actions were not sabotage but an attempt to remove specific repositories after other members deleted a build specification file without his consent. He stated his goal was not to harm the community or users. The OpenMandriva team is currently restoring deleted data and conducting a system audit. Despite the actions being considered a criminal offense by the team, the project has decided not to pursue legal action.
