Salita's Mexican Restaurant in Durant, Okla., experienced a point-of-sale (POS) breach that may have originated from outside the country. The company alerted customers through its Facebook page, last Thursday, that anyone who visited between July 1 and July 27 should check their accounts for fraudulent charges.
Chris Pierce, a store representative, believes an unauthorized source gained access from outside the country to the restaurant's software and stole payment card information to sell back into the country, according to KTEN News.
Pierce told KTEN News that some breach victims are receiving faulty charges in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. First United Bank told KXII News 12 it was able to save between 250 and 500 accounts, although 100 accounts had money stolen from them. Those acounts have been reimbursed.
Salita's has notified the authorities and says that its software has since been fixed.
