New Yorkers' conversations aren't safe from the reach of the National Security Agency, at least that's the point a group of anti-NSA protesters are trying to make.
Purporting to be free agency contractors, an unknown number of protesters are planting tape recorders around New York City to capture civilians' conversations and publish them online. Included in the group's inaugural batch are conversations between an artist and a woman he's interviewing to be his assistant, as well as a man telling friends about his gay lover's sexual fetish for fake fistfights.
“Eavesdropping on the population has revealed many saying, ‘I'm not doing anything wrong so who cares if the NSA tracks what I say and do?'” the group wrote on its website. “Citizens don't seem to mind this monitoring, so we're hiding recorders in public places in hopes of gathering information to help win the war on terror.”
