NIST RFI seeks to increase public-private cooperation

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued a far-reaching request for information (RFI), seeking cybersecurity suggestions from the private sector on a range of topics.

NIST's notice was requested through The Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity, developed as part of the Executive Order 13718 announced by President Obama in February.

The cybersecurity commission, led by former White House national security adviser Tom Donilon and former IBM chief executive officer Sam Palmisano as chairman and vice-chairman, was launched as part of the Cybersecurity National Action Plan (CNAP). CNAP's plan included a $19 billion budget allotment in fiscal 2017.

The RFI is seeking comments related to cybersecurity trends, challenges, and suggested approaches to address cybersecurity  issues. The open comments period concludes September 9, 2016. The commission is also is seeking feedback related to emerging technologies, suggestions for economic and other incentives for enhancing cybersecurity, public-private cooperation, and performance metrics related to national cybersecurity policy.
