NetApp and Oracle partner on cloud storage for AI workloads

NetApp and Oracle are collaborating to address the challenges of modernizing infrastructure, particularly for enterprises moving critical applications and data estates to the cloud for production AI. This partnership aims to simplify the process by offering a fully managed storage service, according to Silicon Angle.

The new offering integrates NetApp's ONTAP data management software directly into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), designed to function as a native OCI service. This deep integration spans the control plane, data plane, and OCI's native billing and provisioning systems. The goal is to provide a seamless experience for customers, allowing them to migrate existing NetApp workloads to OCI without extensive application redesign.

This native approach simplifies operations by consolidating management within a single interface. The collaboration also focuses on bringing AI capabilities closer to enterprise data, enabling customers to run AI inferencing and agentic workflows directly where their data resides, rather than moving it. This move is crucial as AI adoption accelerates, requiring robust and efficient data infrastructure.
