Microsoft Teams enhances bot protection with human verification

Microsoft is implementing new measures to prevent unauthorized bots from joining Teams meetings. Humans will now be required to approve any bots or agents attempting to participate in a call, as reported by Tech Radar.

The new technology acts like a security guard, requiring a human user to verify the identity of bots in the meeting lobby before the session begins. Microsoft is employing a combination of behavioral and infrastructure signals to improve the accuracy of distinguishing bots from human participants. This update comes as bots for transcription and note-taking are becoming more common, but also pose potential security and privacy risks.

Previously, bots could automatically join future meetings without explicit consent. To streamline the process for legitimate tools, Microsoft is introducing a registration path for independent software vendors (ISVs) to pre-clear their agents. This allows developers to register their bots, ensuring they are recognized as known participants when they join Teams meetings.
