Microsoft is providing European customers with enhanced tools to manage cloud access and maintain local control over critical workloads, with further coverage provided by Channel Insider.

Microsoft announced updates to its Sovereign Cloud on Oct. 20, introducing features such as Data Guardian and Production Touch Ledger to improve oversight of remote access by engineers. These tools allow European partners to monitor access to production systems, while the new Sovereign Control Panel provides centralized visibility within the Azure portal. Additionally, external key management via Azure Managed Hardware Security Module is now generally available, enabling organizations to retain control over encryption keys. For managed service providers and systems integrators, these updates necessitate clear definitions of responsibilities regarding access reviews, key recovery and incident management. The company is also expanding options for disconnected operations through Sovereign Private Cloud, allowing workloads to function without constant connectivity. Partners are encouraged to test operating models thoroughly, ensuring that recovery procedures and administrative access remain functional during potential disruptions. By integrating these sovereignty controls into existing service agreements, providers can help regulated clients meet strict data protection requirements while maintaining operational resilience in complex cloud environments.
