Meta has been sued by former WhatsApp Head of Security Attaullah Baig over multiple cybersecurity gaps within WhatsApp, which allegedly resulted in his firing from the firm after being reported to the firm's leaders, CNBC reports.
Aside from lacking an effective 24-hour security operations center, user data access monitoring systems, and a user data storage system inventory, WhatsApp also provided unrestricted user data access to nearly 1,500 of its engineers, raising the risk of stealthy data exfiltration, according to Baig's suit.
Meta was also accused of not only retaliating to Baig's reports with "negative performance feedback" but also with his removal from the company. Such allegations have been dismissed by Meta, who noted Baig's claims to be "distorted."
"Security is an adversarial space, and we pride ourselves in building on our strong record of protecting people's privacy," said a Meta spokesperson.
