Two malicious software programs that target ATMs have been detected in Malaysia, one of which appears to be responsible for multiple ATM thefts in both Ukraine and Mexico, according to report in The Star Online.
According to The Star, Malaysian police have not named the malware used to infect 18 ATMs in that country in the last three days.
But the report noted that statements by police regarding how attackers gained control of the ATMs indicate that either the Backdoor.Ploutus or Backdoor.Padpin trojan is at work.
Police have said the attackers launched a “ulssm.exe” file in each of the ATM by inserting a CD-Rom. Once the ATM was infected, they were able to enter a code on the keypad to withdraw cash.
