Local police officers are among the eight or nine victims of a classic card skimming scam that took place at a Chinese buffet in Pennsylvania in the middle of December 2013.
During two or three shifts, a man waiting tables at Jumbo China Buffet in Hazle Township swiped patrons' credit cards into an electronic skimming device – which stored the information – and later, along with two others, made charges of nearly $20,000 before fleeing, according to a report.
Police are not sure of the waiter's identity and an investigation is ongoing as authorities seek out the trio.
Surveillance videos from the locations where charges were made showed three males between 17 and 25 years of age. Some of their purchases included gift cards and cigarettes from stores such as Walmart and Rite-Aid. A victim reported one fraudulent charge of $4,500.
