Lizard Squad, the hacker collective and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) provider, disrupted service on Google's Vietnamese homepage last weekend.
Visitors to Google.com.vn on Sunday were redirected to a Lizard Squad-operated page that advertised the group's DDoS tool, the “Lizard Stresser.”
The expected Google name servers were changed to CloudFlare through a DNS poisoning attack, OpenDNS reported, and the group hinted at its attack on Twitter.
Lizard Squad's fraudulent DigitalOcean-hosted page was reportedly located in the Netherlands until CloudFlare took it down after reports of the redirection surfaced.
“The hosting of the site in The Netherlands, when combined with the load balancing capabilities of employing CloudFlare's infrastructure," OpenDNS wrote, signals "at least some thought was put into managing the considerable amount of web traffic generated by Google-related requests."
Earlier this month, the group reportedly launched attacks against gaming services, including Xbox Live.
