After information and technology from domestic companies had been leaked to rivals in other countries, Japan said it would take steps to safeguard technology and preventing leaks, according to a Thursday report by Reuters.
Among those companies hit is Toshiba, with unconfirmed reports saying that police have arrested a former engineer at the company who may have passed on technical data related to NAND memory chips to SK Hynix Inc. in South Korea.
Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made cyber security a focus after reports of troubling leaks and the arrests in 2012 of several people suspected of leaking industrial secrets to Chinese companies. China is often the destination of stolen information in espionage incidents.
