Israeli defense contractor allegedly breached by Iranian hackers

Suspected Iranian state-sponsored threat operation Cyber Toufan has claimed to have compromised Israeli defense contractor Maya Engineering's security cameras, reports The Cyber Express.

Unauthorized access to Maya Engineering's network for 1.5 years has enabled access to the contractor's QNAP archive and the subsequent breach of fellow contractors Elbit and Rafael that impacted their routers, phones, printers, and cameras, said Cyber Toufan.

"We have recorded your meetings with sound and video for over a year. This is just the beginning with Maya!" noted the group, which has exposed footage of internal meetings and engineering work on drones, tanks, missiles, and other defense systems. SANS instructor and consultant Kevin Garvey has expressed alarm over the claims, which have yet to be confirmed by Maya Engineering.

"Shows how *any* connected asset needs rigorous security associated to it! Good reminder to all to check if cameras and other peripherals are part of your standard vuln management and secure config programs (amongst others functional programs)," said Garvey in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
