An insider is suspected of taking payroll data on about 100,000 employees of UK supermarket chain Morrisons, and leaking it online and to a local newspaper, Mail Online reported on Friday.
“As soon as we became aware of this last night we took immediate steps to ensure the data was removed from the website,” according to a Morrisons letter sent to employees, which said the data included names, addresses and bank account details. “It was closed down within hours of us being notified.”
An ongoing investigation has so far revealed no evidence of an attack, and an insider with access to payroll data is suspected of leaking the information. A “concerned Morrisons shopper” sent the data to the Telegraph & Argus, a Bradford-based newspaper.
