Independent US cyber force examined

The Association of U.S. Cyber Forces has been advancing the creation of an independent military cyber force to strengthen the U.S.'s information security posture, DefenseScoop reports. "The challenge that the U.S. must address, and quickly, is to provide the same level of prominence within the government on the Information domain. [S]pecific Departments have been established to support what historically have been the most effective elements of power for the U.S. Therefore it makes sense to institute a separate Department to manage and address the challenges within the Information sector of national security," said the AUSCF in a whitepaper. Such an independent force could enable improved command and control organization, according to the AUSCF, which has been discouraging the coexistence of the cyber service and the Cyber Command. Cyberspace Solarium Commission 2.0 Director Mark Montgomery said that the advantages and disadvantages of a new independent cyber force are under evaluation but expressed preference for the establishment of a separate cyber force alongside Cyber Command.
