HackerOne launches AI Research Safe Harbor to protect security testers

Per Silicon Angle, HackerOne Inc. has introduced the Good Faith AI Research Safe Harbor, a new framework designed to provide clear authorization and legal protections for researchers testing artificial intelligence systems. This initiative aims to address the growing legal ambiguity surrounding AI testing as these systems become more integrated into critical products and services.

The new framework builds upon HackerOne's existing Gold Standard Safe Harbor for traditional software. It establishes a shared standard for organizations and AI researchers, enabling faster identification and remediation of AI risks. Organizations adopting the safe harbor commit to recognizing good-faith AI research as authorized, refraining from legal action, and offering exemptions from restrictive terms of service.

The protection applies to AI systems owned or controlled by the adopting organization, promoting responsible disclosure and collaboration. This move signals to researchers that AI testing is welcomed and protected, encouraging higher-quality testing.
