Google adds an additional layer to Chrome’s stored passwords

Share

Google has decided to add a layer of security to users' stored Chrome passwords in the browser's settings panel.

The latest version of Chrome will now require users to input their computer's system password in order to gain access to the list of stored passwords. Previously, Google was criticized for not being clear as to how easy it is to access the passwords.

In August, software developer Elliot Kember's blog post discussing the tech-giant's decision to leave Chrome users' stored passwords unprotected and in plain text caused a commotion.

Kember described the feature as a “flaw,” while Justin Schuh, Chrome browser security lead, responded with a post of his own, defending Google's decision, explaining that if a “bad guy” gets access to a user's OS, they can access anything.
