France's Ministry of the Interior had its email servers infiltrated in a cyberattack last week, exposing certain documents, according to Security Affairs.

Investigation into the incident, which was discovered from Dec. 11 to 12, is still underway but there has been no indication of any significant compromise, noted French Interior Minister Laurent Nuez, who emphasized the implementation of additional security measures and access controls in the wake of the intrusion. Such a development comes months after Russian state-sponsored threat operation APT28 was blamed by the French government for the years-long cyberattack campaign that impacted over a dozen public and private organizations across the country.

After primarily targeting ministerial bodies, local governments, aerospace entities, the defense technological and industrial base, think-tanks, and research organizations in 2021, APT28 proceeded to further hammer the diplomatic, governmental, and research industries with attacks last year, according to the French government.
