New York police have identified a pattern of fraudulent activity on credit and debit cards used to make purchases at Colonial Car Wash in Rotterdam, according to reports.
Detectives are investigating alongside the Secret Service to identify the issue, according to a Sunday NEWS10 ABC report, which adds that Colonial Car Wash is working with equipment vendors and is implementing changes so cards can no longer be stolen.
The Secret Service was notified because it is aware of and has investigated similar incidents that have occurred at car washes up and down the Eastern seaboard, NEWS10 reported Rotterdam police Lieutenant Michael Brown as saying.
Authorities were first tipped off to an issue after managers with M&T Bank, First Niagara Bank and Price Chopper Federal Credit Union reported fraudulent activity on customer accounts, the report indicated.
